fxDreema vs EA Builder vs MQL5 Wizard vs AlgoPuzzle (2026)

By AlgoPuzzle · Published · Updated

fxDreema, EA Builder, the MQL5 Wizard and AlgoPuzzle all turn a trading idea into an Expert Advisor without programming, but they differ in four things that decide which one fits: which platforms they export to, what is free, whether you can test the strategy before exporting it, and how much logic they can express. AlgoPuzzle is the only one of the four that exports cTrader cBots as well as MT5 and MT4 Expert Advisors, the only one with a backtester and Monte Carlo analysis built into the builder, and the only one that imports existing .mq4, .mq5 and .cs code (including fxDreema projects) back into editable blocks; it is currently free with unlimited exports. fxDreema has the most flexible canvas - flowchart logic, custom indicators - but its free plan only exports projects with up to 10 connections between blocks. EA Builder covers MT4, MT5 and TradeStation and supports custom indicators, but Expert Advisors need its paid version. The MQL5 Wizard is free and already inside MetaTrader 5, but builds from a fixed set of modules. If your strategy is "when this condition is true on this market and timeframe, open a trade with this size, stop and target", AlgoPuzzle does the most for free; if it depends on a custom indicator, choose fxDreema or EA Builder.

Disclosure: AlgoPuzzle is our own product. Facts about the other tools come from their own websites as of October 2026; check them there before you decide. Strategy generators such as EA Studio and StrategyQuant X, which search for strategies instead of building yours, are covered in Best No-Code EA Builders Compared.

The four builders at a glance

All four are builders, not generators: you describe the strategy, and the tool writes the platform code for it.

Where AlgoPuzzle is ahead

AlgoPuzzle's lead is in what happens around the strategy: testing it before export, moving it between platforms, and bringing in strategies built elsewhere. Those are the steps where most no-code strategies go wrong, and the other three builders leave them to MetaTrader.

Where the others are ahead

An honest comparison has to say where AlgoPuzzle isn't the right tool, because rebuilding a strategy around a builder that can't express it costs more than any subscription.

From idea to tested EA: the workflow in each tool

The number of steps before you see whether a strategy would have traded the way you meant is the biggest practical difference between the four.

1. BuildBlocks in the browserBlocks / designer in the browserWizard in MetaEditor
2. First testBacktest in the builderExport, install in MetaTrader, compileCompile in MetaEditor

4. Change a ruleEdit a block, re-run (seconds)Edit, export, recompile, re-testRe-run the wizard or edit the code
5. Final checkExport, then MT5 Strategy Tester and demoMT Strategy Tester and demoMT5 Strategy Tester and demo

The final check is the same for every tool, AlgoPuzzle included: run the exported file in the platform's own tester (how to backtest an EA in the MT5 Strategy Tester) and then on a demo account (backtesting vs. demo trading). A builder-side backtest shortens the loop; it doesn't replace the last step.

What you get for free in each builder

Free plans differ more than the headline "free" suggests: the limit is on project size in fxDreema, on the type of program in EA Builder, and on platform in the MQL5 Wizard.

BuilderFreeLimit of the free use
AlgoPuzzleBuilding, backtesting, Monte Carlo, import, export to MT5 / MT4 / cTraderA free account to export, backtest and import; AI-read imports are limited per day

Which builder should you use?

  1. Your strategy uses a custom indicator or multi-step logic: fxDreema (or EA Builder for custom indicators and TradeStation).
  2. You trade on cTrader, or want MT5, MT4 and cTrader from one build: AlgoPuzzle.
  3. You want to see a backtest before you export, without installing anything: AlgoPuzzle.
  4. You outgrew fxDreema's 10-connection free limit: import the project into AlgoPuzzle (fxDreema Alternatives walks through it), or pay for a period of fxDreema's plan if the strategy needs its flowchart features.
  5. You never want to leave MetaTrader 5: the MQL5 Wizard.

Common questions

Is AlgoPuzzle better than fxDreema?

For rule-based strategies, AlgoPuzzle offers more for free: unlimited exports, a built-in backtest with Monte Carlo analysis before export, cTrader as well as MT4 and MT5, and import of existing .mq4, .mq5 and .cs files, including fxDreema projects. fxDreema is the better choice when a strategy needs custom indicators or multi-step flowchart logic, which AlgoPuzzle does not support today.

Which no-code EA builder has a built-in backtester?

Among the visual builders compared here, AlgoPuzzle is the one that backtests a strategy inside the builder before export, on 1-minute historical data, with a Monte Carlo analysis of the results. With fxDreema, EA Builder and the MQL5 Wizard you export the EA and test it in the trading platform's own Strategy Tester.

Which no-code EA builder supports cTrader?

Of the four compared here, only AlgoPuzzle exports cTrader cBots (.cs), from the same blocks as its MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4 files. fxDreema and the MQL5 Wizard are MetaTrader-only, and EA Builder exports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and TradeStation code.

Is EA Builder free?

Partly. According to its website, EA Builder lets you create indicators for free, while Expert Advisors (strategies) need its paid version, a one-time payment of $97 for lifetime access. AlgoPuzzle is currently free for building, backtesting and exporting Expert Advisors, with a free account.

Can I move my fxDreema project to another EA builder?

Yes, to AlgoPuzzle. Every .mq4 or .mq5 file fxDreema exports contains the fxDreema project, and AlgoPuzzle's Import reads it back into blocks with a report of what was imported exactly, what differs and what has no equivalent. You can then backtest it and export it for MT5, MT4 or cTrader.
